La Lia - Costa Rica
The brothers are back! Luis Alberto and Oscar Adolfo Monge's second product is a honey-cured Catuai from Tarrazú, one of Costa Rica's most renowned growing regions.
Luis and Oscar built the La Lia factory, which they named after their mother, in 2007. The third generation of coffee producers in their family, they grew up learning the secrets of the trade and honing their passion for farming. The love and meticulous care they put into their crops is reflected in the cup, and the growing conditions couldn't be more idyllic: rich volcanic soil, high elevation and afternoon cloud cover for that the cherries ripen slowly.
Pilot is proud to partner with these brothers who don't just share impeccable coffees, but act as stewards to their workers and community. They recognize the importance of fair wages and strive to ensure that their team members and their families have a good quality of life. They also implement programs to support their community, promote growth and learning in different areas.
